Welcome to the internet’s latest music magazine, EST. 1997.

You’re probably wondering, why the name? Well, as the magazine’s founder, its name is personal to me. While I may not have founded the magazine itself until 2014, I established my intense love of music in 1997. For a multitude of personal reasons, the year itself is significant to me. Musically, it was quite the quintessential year. Destiny’s Child made their debut, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson released their most introspective albums to date, Michael Jackson was on his last big world tour for HIStory, and that’s not even half of it!

We will explore the music of 1997 in depth over the course of the next year. The intention of the magazine is, as the tagline says, to encapsulate the sounds of time – beginning with 1997, the chosen, pivotal year. Each week, we will review and discuss the albums and singles released that week in 1997 and “relive the splendor” (name that tune!) of these nostalgic moments. (Just for the nostalgia, I gotta say it!) We will also reminisce about other fun, pop-culture related topics and happenings from the year.

However, our site won’t only be nostalgic – of course, we intend to keep our readers abreast of the latest developments in today’s music as well. However, we will avoid gossip and keep our articles purely about the music, and only the music. If an artist has just released a new album, we will share our opinion about the album and its music – not the artist and the drama in his or her personal life. No sensationalized headlines, no paparazzi photos and updates about who is dating who – it’ll be purely about the music here at ’97. The only time you’ll hear from us about an artist’s personal life is if the artist brings it up in song. Otherwise, it’s none of our business, really. That’s our philosophy here, and we hope to develop a large base of readers who feel the same way.

We have a large team of writers, but we don’t want it to be all about our thoughts and opinions. We want to hear from you, too. Perhaps you have an idea for a really interesting, nostalgic post that you think belongs on the site. Or, maybe you want to review a new album or single. Either way, send it in to us at [email protected]. Our editors will review your article and, if we like it, we’ll post it on the site (and credit you of course). Soon, we will be enabling a simpler, more streamlined way to submit contributions, but until then, please submit via email. If you are interested in becoming a staff writer, please email me, [email protected].

Once again, welcome, and thank you for visiting EST. 1997! Please explore the site, read the articles, reflect, and comment with your thoughts and memories. Happy reminiscing!

Vincent
